The problem is the misrepresentation of the “good news of Jesus” as the news that a universal sentence to pay for sin has been carried out. The “justice” model of religious faith. Rather, the good news is the message of Jesus, that God is Love. If you abide in Love, God is alive in you.

The Hebrew (Aramaic?) word for sin is best translated as “missing the mark (target)”. Examination of conscience is asking “how did I miss the chance to love.?

The “religious impetus” is a function of the heart, not the mind. Nevertheless religious conversation can provoke consciousness bypassing the mind.

Before concluding on meaning in the Sermon on the Mount, it would be valuable to have access to translation from the language Jesus spoke, I.e., Aramaic.
